Yongbuk Middle School is located at the township of Samaemyeon, Namwon which lies in the middle of North Jeolla or Jeonbuk (Chonbuk) province, in Southwestern South Korea. The school was formally established as a name of Samae Secondary Academy on October March, 1949. It currently has six classes in which there two classes in each of 7th, 8th and 9th grades. The student quota of each grade is sixty. The total number of the students is one hundred and seventy two as of March 27, 2011. Yongbuk Middle School attached facilities are the Hanmaum Christian Academy, and Yongbuk Digital Library. Autonomous Yongbuk Middle School is an autonomous school which can be run autonomously by using its discretion in admitting students. Because of the autonomy of selecting its own students, Yongbuk Middle School (henceforth, YMS) can select its own students nationwide. In addition, YMS is a private-run Christian school which teaches students from the Biblical worldview to build their good characters. All the teaching and administrative staff are Christians and do their best to devote themselves to building good and happy educational environments. In our students' academic achievement, YMS is a top-ranking middle school in Jeonbuk Province as well as Namwon. The competition rate in the 2011 YMS entrance examination is 2.01:1. About 40 percent of the 2011 freshmen students are boarding students. Means are provided three times a day because YMS is also operated as a boarding school. Its school dormitory named Cheong-am-gwan (Chung-Am Hall) accommodates one hundred persons. If a middle school student wants to transfer to YMS, he or she can be selected through the evaluation process of the student record and interview in August and February every year under the condition that there is a vacant seat in each grade level.

  • Pre-establishment

Although the pre-establishment was founded in 1949, the school foundation named Chungang Hakwon was founded in 1950. In fact, Yongbuk Middle School was established as of April 28, 1950. Yongbuk Middle School officially opened on June 10, 1950.

The Education Policy of Yongbuk Middle School

    1. Basic Character Building Education

Basic Character Building Education is an education in which a human being is supported and helped to build a good character as a desirable being including a higher sense of morality, excellent social skills, altruistic attitude and purified emotions.

    (1) No Leftover Policy

    a) Take as much food and side-dishes as I can eat. b) If too much food and side-dishes are served, take away part of them. c) If food and side-dishes are not enough while eating, come back to the food distribution desk and take more, without waiting in line. d) However, do NOT leave any food leftover. Because half of the world's population is starving and desperate for food, in addition to nature preservation, as you know.

    (2) A Sense of Ownership for Public Facilities

A person with a good sense of ownership for public facilities at school is one who has a good personality and an upright mind.

He/She must carefully use public facilities, such as doors, computer equipments, radiators in toilets, water purifiers, brooms and multimedia equipment, etc. Even when no one is looking, Yongbuk Middle School students are expected to behave respectfully and carefully and with discernment because they are those who walk with God their Lord. They will become a light to shine to the world and a salt of the world.

    (3) Do NOT Dump Trash, but Pick It Up

When we walk on the clean way, some darkness was flowing away out of our mind. In the clean environment, emotional beauty and

affective stability can be built. Stable emotion can make learning go on. Good affective characters can be being built by the surrounding circumstances. Positive disposition can be grown up in clean and beautiful environment with love in the human relationship. But negative disposition and learned frustration grows up in dirty and chaotic circumstances. We teachers pick up trash, even though some students dump the trash. From the general viewpoint of a Christian teacher, it is natural for a child to dump trash, if he/she has no discipline not to dump trash at home or school.

    (4) BE a Friend for a Weak Classmate

A person does not live alone here in this world. A human being can grow up healthily and happily when he/she lives together

just like the trees or grasses in the forest as a healthy ecological system. We can build a healthy community where various people live cooperatively. In fact, a really good community we really want to live in is not a community only with selfish people, but a community where everybody tries to be a good friend for the weak and socially alienated. Students disciplined like this will be able to be pivotal leaders who can innovate our society into a better one with a new vitality for development.

    (5) Be Careful with the Language We Use

"But I tell you that anyone who is angry with this brother will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, 'Raca,' is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who syas, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell."

    (Mt. 5:22)

"There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man." (Mark 7:15)

    (6) Learn Hard, and Donate Your Ability to Those Who Need It

Don't say, "Do you give to others what you learn?". In fact, this means 'Nobody can take away what we learn'

because it is in our mind. However, we Yongbukyans have to learn desperately and must donate our abilities to those who need them, when we grow up and now. You will be raised by God our Lord to be a great source of blessing for people in the world.

    (7) Always Be Thankful

"Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord,

always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Submit to one another out of revereence for Christ." (Ephesians 5:19-20)

    (8) Giving Is Much Better Than Receiving
