Geography

Yazali is located at Latitude 15.9044 Longitude 80.4675. It has an average elevation of 5 metres (16 feet).

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,Yazali had a population of 3,103. Males constituted 51% of the population and females 49%. Yazali has an average literacy rate of 23%, lower than the national average of 59.5%; with 35% of the males and 15% of females literate. 10% of the population is under 6 years of age. The majority occupation of the village is agriculture.

History

Yazali is one of the historical villages of Guntur District, located 40 miles south of Guntur City on the East Coast of India. It is traditionally known as the hub of education in the district. The Vedapathasala associated with SankaraMath has a very long history. The village is about 9 km away from the Bay of Bengal and has a tourist spot at Suryalanka.

    The village has three historical temples in a compound: Siva temple, Anjaneyaswamy temple and laxmi narasimhaswamy temple.

    Another temple is the Sri Puttalamma Thali temple. Troops from this village participated in "The Battle of Palnadu" on the side of Chandavolu Maharajah side. In remembrance of their forefathers, "Puppala" Varu constructed a temple, named "Puppala Vari Verrula Mandhiram".

    Mr. G. Venkateswararao and Mrs. G. Soundaryavathi, natives of Yazali now living in Hyderabad, have constructed a Sai Baba temple in the village for the use of local people. The Temple was inaugurated on 30 April 2008. The temple houses a number of idols including Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha and Lord Dattatreya.

    Yazali Najanma Bhoomi Village development Society

    Yazali – Naa Janma Bhoomi Village Development Society was established in 2010 by a group of villagers and social workers. Some of the founders had been involved in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities.

    In 2010, they learnt of some serious drink-driving accidents in which teenage boys from the village were killed. As a result of these events, they decided to develop a mentorship and comprehensive development programme for their village. Thus, Yazali – Naa Janma Bhoomi was formed. As a non-profit organization, Yazali – Naa Janma Bhoomi aims to work to improve Yazali village in the areas of agriculture, rural development, public sanitation, education, female empowerment, healthcare, wellness, rural rehabilitation, and so on. The trust also aspires to transform Yazali into a model village for the entire Guntur District.
