Family
Son of Yancy Bailey Spencer, Jr. (1929 - 2010), PFC in World War II, and wife Patricia Lee, who married for a third time on April 9, 1988 Helen Delabar Martison (Van Lear, Kentucky, December 18, 1939). Grandson of Yancy Bailey Spencer (North Carolina, 1890 - ?) and wife Georgia "Georgie" C. Smith (1898 - ?), who had three children.
He and second wife, Lydia Ann Brown, had two children, actor Abigail Spencer and Sterling Spencer. His older son, Yancy Spencer IV, was from his first marriage. He has three grandchildren, Britney Noelle, Roman Allen, and Wyatt Yancy.
Death
Yancy died while surfing at County Line, California, on February 14, 2011. The cause of death was thought to be due to a major heart attack.
A statue of him was erected on Pensacola Beach, Florida.
