William Rudolph Smith was a politician in the states of Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

Biography

Smith was born on August 31, 1787 in Trappe, Pennsylvania. Eventually he would move to Mineral Point, Wisconsin. His son, John Montgomery Smith, would serve in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Smith died on August 22, 1868 in Quincy, Illinois.

Career

Smith served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and the Pennsylvania State Senate. After moving, he was a delegate to the first Wisconsin Constitutional Convention in 1846. Later, he would serve as the Attorney General of Wisconsin from 1856 to 1858. Smith served as a Colonel in the United States Army during the War of 1812.
