From its beginnings in shipping and shipping finance in 1982, Watson Farley & Williams has developed a broader practice: Energy & Infrastructure, Maritime, Natural Resources, Real Estate and Transport.

Watson Farley & Williams achieved Carbon Zero status through participating in the Kenyan Energy Efficient Stove Project and the Ugandan Community Borehole Project. Many of the firm's offices and members of staff take part in Earth Hour. Watson Farley & Williams is a member of the Legal Sustainability Alliance (LSA), an inclusive movement of legal firms and organisations committed to working collaboratively to take action to improve the environmental sustainability of their operations and activities.

Watson Farley & Williams was shortlisted for Best Community Engagement at the MPF Awards for Management Excellence 2015. The firm has sponsored International Lawyers for Africa (ILFA) since 2011, a pro bono/CSR initiative supported by leading international law firms based in London.
