The last day vas school

Vietnam-Australia School, Hanoi, commonly known as VAS Hanoi, is a semi-international school in Hanoi, Vietnam. The school was established in pursuant to decision No 1452/QĐ-UBND dated 13 April 2007 of the People's Committee of Hanoi.

VAS Hanoi follows the Vietnamese curriculum and academic year calendar set out by the Ministry of Education and Training. Aside from the Vietnamese curriculum, VAS Hanoi also implements the Australian education programs in cooperation with Presbyterian Ladies' College, Sydney and Presbyterian Ladies' College, Armidale. The school offers English-based courses: Global English and Global Commerce which lead to the Australian International School Certificate (AISC). These subjects are taught in English by native English speakers recruited by PLC. These global subjects are designed for VAS Hanoi students by PLC and are based on the New South Wales curriculum.

The seven-year program which can be adjusted to accommodate students who enroll during the course. Hanoi Department of Education and Training has reviewed the program and given the school the permission to implement the project "Supplementary English program in cooperation with Australia: the Global English and Global Commerce courses" by decision No. 61/SGD&DT-GDCN dated January 10, 2008.

Successful completion of the Australian International School Certificate with a duration of 400 hours and a grade of Credit or higher has been recognised by CQUniversity as satisfying the English language proficiency requirements for entry to its programs.

Curriculum

Vietnamese curriculum: follow the curriculum set out by the Ministry of Education and Training with additional periods for some subjects (Maths, Philology, English for secondary school level and Maths, Philology, English, Physics, Chemistry for high school level.

Australian curriculum: a seven-year program.

Co-curriculum

After school, students participate in sports, arts, social activities, economy and language. These clubs are managed by Vietnamese and foreign teachers and some invited coaches.

Sporting competitions, language nights, art exhibitions and performances are organized within the school.

Each year, VAS Hanoi hosts visits of students from Australian schools. The school also sends groups of students to Australia and creates opportunities for its students to work with charity projects, sporting and music events.

Communication in English is encouraged within the school campus.

Primary school

School hours are from 8am to 4pm, from Monday to Friday

The 8th period of Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday is for co-curricular activities.

Secondary and high school

School hours are from 7:45am to 4:40pm, from Monday to Friday

The 8th and 9th period of Monday and Thursday is for co-curricular activities.

Teaching methodology

Small class sizes (15 to 25 students each) are divided according to the students’ ability which enables teachers to choose the most suitable teaching approach for each level.

Students gain knowledge through activities such as group work, research and collaboration; presentation and discussion; question asking and problem solving.

Parents can follow students’ results and progress through an online student management program available to all VAS Hanoi parents.

Vietnamese curriculum

By November 2012, VAS Hanoi has 61 teachers, more than half of whom hold PhD and master's degrees, including 1 Teacher of Merit, 2 former vice principals of the Foreign Language Specialized School and five former heads of department in Hanoi schools.

Australian curriculum

Australian teachers are native English and qualified teachers with experienced teaching secondary and high school students. By November 2012, VAS Hanoi had eight foreign teachers.

PLC sends their highly qualified teachers to VAS Hanoi. These professionals visit short-term basis to assist with teacher training and curriculum development.

For teaching and learning

VAS Hanoi is situated in 15,000m2 site at Mỹ Đình 1 Residential Area, Hanoi.

It has 130 air-conditioned classrooms of 50m2 equipped with computers connected to the internet, video and object projectors, pin boards, and multi-media learning equipment.

Four laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Technology.

Computer room with more than 50 computers connected to the internet to allow students to have their own computer during practical and self-study lessons.

Library with books in Vietnamese and English.

For creativity and recreation

Two arts and music rooms.

Two-floor multi-function building with area of over 1.000m² floor being used respectively as dining area and in-door sporting and performing centre.

School play ground of over 2.000m², a soccer field and a boarding house

A sick bay with equipment and medicine run by a qualified medical doctor.

Partner schools

PLC Sydney and Armidale are Australian private schools established in the late 1880s on the UK model. In recent years, they both have continuously been in the top group in the New South Wales HSC School ranking. PLC Armidale educates approximately 1300 day and boarding students from age 4 to age 18. It is international in character and has close relationships with prestigious schools outside Australia.

The Executive Principal, Dr. William T. McKeith, is one of the longest serving principals in Australia. Dr. McKeith has been awarded the honourable medal AM in 2008 by the Australian Government for his contributions to education.
