Veerlapalem, is a major village in Duggirala mandal in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, South India.

Geography

Veerlapalem lies on the south side of the river Krishna in Guntur Dist and about 12 miles (19 km) south west from Vijayawada. It is in the historic southern route from Vijayawada to Repalle along with River Krishna and is bounded on its south side by the Pedapalem route and on the west by road Connected to Nutakki Village.

History

The village has a population of over 500 (2001 census). It is located 30 miles (48 km) from Guntur city. Krishna River Canal flows through Veerlapailam making it a part of the rice bowl of Andhra Pradesh. Veerlapalem is known for its rich cultural and literary legacy. There is a famous temple in Veerlapailam village (almost 100 years old) Sri Rama Temple.

Location

12 kilometres (7.5 mi) from Vijayawada, 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) from Tenali, 30 kilometres (19 mi) from Guntur.

The Village extends roughly 6 miles (9.7 km) north to south which includes about 20,000 acres (80.9 km2) of agriculture land; and roughly 4 miles (6.4 km) east to west.

The land in the Village is still mainly agricultural but now comprises only few farms which employ very few people. The ZPPH School started in Nutakki in late 1950s' and ZPHS School started in Pedapalem in late 1960s are source of education. The surrounding village are RamachandraPuram, Nutakki, Mellampudi, Chirravuru and Kothapalem.

The total population is about 500. The population divides by age group roughly into: 25% aged 18 and under, 50% aged between 18 and 60, 25% aged 60 or over.

Education

The primary and secondary school education is imparted by government, aided and private schools, under the School Education Department of the state. There are no student enrollment in any school of the village.
