Vanimal or Vanimel is a village and a Grama Panchayath in the north of Kozhikode district, Kerala, India. It comes under the Nadapuram region.

Heritage

Bhoomivathukkal is the current business center of Vanimal village and Vayalpeedika is the Heritage city which was the main commercial hub during 1970-'90. The Panchayath is renowned as Vanimal and the actual Vanimal Desam is in Vayalpeedika adjacent to Verkadavu Desams which lays on the both sides of Vayalpeedika city. The famous Vanimal Juma masjid is situated in Vayalpeedika.

Etymology

The meaning of vani (Malayalam: വാണി) is vidhya (Malayalam: വിദ്യ) which denotes the importance of education.

Education

The literacy rate in Vanimal is more when it compared to other villages of Calicut district. This credit belongs not only to one of the biggest high school in the district namely "Crescent High School Vanimal" but also other two high schools government higher secondary school in Velliyode and St. George's H.S. Vilangad.

Crescent Higher Secondary School Vanimal, is located in Bhoomivathukkal, is the biggest and one of the oldest educational institution in the Village, consisting of more than 1800 students and 75 staffs. The important thing is to be noted that more than 80% of the total teachers in this school belong to the same village, Vanimal. It highlights the importance of educational awareness of the people of this village. There are many famous personalities in various field from Vanimal. At present the village is socially and educationally well developed.

    The nearest city connect to this village is Kallachi, which lead Kuttiyadi in one way and Nadapuram in the other way. Vanimal Puzha (river) flows through the borders of vanimal village which is well known as MAYYAZHI RIVER. Vanimal coming under the Calicut district and its neighboring districts are Wayanad and Kannur. Vanimal panchayth itself positioned as a triangle with two sides of district borders; kannur and wayanad which is in conservative famous forest areas of Kannavam and Panom. It is very easy to reach to Wayanad through vanimal. Vanimal still a developing village and there is many opportunity to develop both agricultural and industry wise.

    Vanimal village connects to other parts of India through Vatakara city on the west and Kuttiady town on the east. National highway No.66 passes through Vatakara and the northern stretch connects to Goa and Mumbai. The southern stretch connects to Cochin and Trivandrum. The eastern Highway going through Kuttiady connects to Mananthavady, Mysore and Bangalore. The nearest airports are at Kannur and Kozhikode. The nearest railway station is at Vatakara.
