Vanessa Atterbeary is an American politician who represents District 13 in the Maryland House of Delegates.

Background

Atterbeary was born on June 24, 1975, in Columbia, Maryland. She graduated from Atholton High School, also in Columbia and then went on to the College of William and Mary where she received her bachelor's degree in government in 1997. That same year she went on to the Villanova University School of Law, and earned her juris doctorate three years later. After law school, Atterbeary clerked for Judge David W. Young of the Baltimore City Circuit Court. Atterbeary was admitted to Maryland Bar in 2001 and the District of Columbia Bar in 2002. Her first job as an attorney was in 2002 for Bulman, Dunie, Burke & Feld, where she worked as General counsel for 5 years.
In the legislature

Atterbeary serves on the House Judiciary committee. In May 2016, Atterbeary was appointed to the Public Safety and Policing Work Group by the Speaker of the Maryland House. She also serves on the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland and the Women's Caucus of Maryland.
