Vandichakkaram is a 1980 Tamil film. The film stars Sivakumar and Saritha in the lead roles and both of them won a Filmfare Award in the respective categories. It was one of the biggest hits of Sivakumar. The film marked the debut of Silk Smitha This movie was later remade in Hindi as Prem Pratigyaa and in Telugu as Gharana Gangulu.

    Vinu Chakravarthy wrote the script in 1976 but the story was made into a film and released in 1982. This was the first film where Vinu introduced the infamous glamour queen Silk Smitha, known at that time as Kakinada Vijayalakshmi. She would go on to become the epitome of item numbers in South Indian cinema and dream girl of young and old alike in 80s and 90s. Smitha, who played a character named "Silk" in this film, or colloquially in tamil as "Silukku" later became a popular actress. The name "Silk Smitha" was given to the actress by Vinu Chakravarthy.

    The music composed by Sankar Ganesh. and lyrics were penned by Pulamaipithan.
