Vamona navelcar an artist of three continents book
Vamona Ananta Sinai Navelcar is an artist from Goa, India, who grew up during the times when the region was Portuguese-ruled, and has studied or worked in Portugal, in Mozambique and in Goa. Navelcar is based in Pomburpa village, and lives on a road by the river that skirts central Goa, not far from Panjim (Panaji).

Navelcar, now in his 80s, began his art career in Mozambique, after training in Portugal, where he also lived for some time. He excels in Christian figurative art.
He has adopted the name of "Ganesh", in view of his devotion to the Hindu deity and his brother Ganesh,(Died at the age of 15 when Vamona was 6 years old) who mentored Vamona in his formative years. Navelcar has been called "a state treasure of Goa, whose remarkable oeuvre spans several decades." He has twice received the Gulbenkian Fellowships (1963 and 1971), he won an international award at the International Exhibition of Art in Monte Carlo for his ink drawing, Angoch Woman. He is considered a "prolific master of line" with a specialisation in murals and bas-relief composed of metallic, wooden and glass structures and his works form part of private and museum collections worldwide.
Description of work
Describing his recent work, The Times of India newspaper commented: "The ethic extends to the great Vamona Navelcar. Known for his elegant line, for epitomizing gentility, the seniormost contributor has rendered a grotesque skull-bedecked 'Ogre', a painting that immediately recalls Angelo da Fonseca's 'Apocalypse' (a likewise searing vision painted after a lifetime of making serene images)."
The local newspaper The Navhind Times described him thus: "Vamona Ananta Sinai Navelcar alias Ganesh is a state treasure, whose remarkable journey spans over decades. He has won an international award for his ink drawing ‘Angosh Woman’ at the International Exhibition of Art in Monte Carlo and has also been a recipient of the Gulbenkian fellowship twice. A prolific master of line, Vamona has specialised in murals and bas-relief composed of metallic, wooden and glass structures."
Exhibition in Portugal
From June 23 to September 9, 2012, Goan artist Navelcar exhibited his work at the Figueiro de Vinhos gallery, in the centre of Portugal.
A Retrospective exhibition was held in Portugal June - October 2012 curated by Vamona's long standing friend and admirer, Professor Antonino Martins Mendes
Book planned
As of January 2013, retired aeronautical engineer Anne Ketteringham and UK expat has completed her book in conjunction with VS Arts, to be published on the life and work of Vamona Navelcar. The book is called Vamona Navelcar, An Artist of Three Continents will be launched in Goa at Gallery Gitangely, Panaji on 12 April 2013 with an exhibition of Vamona Navelcar's works over the decades. The book i now available at Village Sanctuary, Panaji, India.
