V. Ramgopal Rao is the director of Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He is a Professor in Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and is now also the director at IIT Delhi. Ramgopal Rao has more than 350 publications in various journals, and 29 patents in the areas of Electron devices and Nanoelectronics. Ramgopal Rao was the first elected chairman for the Indian Section of the American Nano Society. He is also the recipient of multiple prizes including the Infosys Prize in 2013, Techno-Mentor award from the Indian Semiconductor Association in 2009. and the IBM faculty award in 2007.

Early life and education

Ramgopal Rao got his B. Tech.degree from Kakatiya University in 1986 and his M. Tech. from IIT Bombay in 1991.

Career

Ramgopal Rao's held short term visiting positions in University of California, Los Angeles in May–July 2001 in the USA. After this, he worked for short periods of times at several universities all over the world, including Tokyo Institute of Technology, Monash University, The University of Calabria in Italy, Georgia Institute of Technology, Nanyang Technological University, University of Alberta, and McGill University. He was the Head of The Centre for Excellence in Nanoelectronics at IIT Bombay between December 2005 and January 2007. He is currently the Institute Chair Professor in the Electrical Engineering Department at IIT Bombay.
