The University of Toronto Chinese Students and Scholars Association (UTCSSA) was established in 1982. It is the oldest and largest Chinese student association in Toronto. As a student association registered in the education office of the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Toronto, UTCSSA is dedicated to helping Chinese students of the University of Toronto in developing a comfortable environment for learning, working, socializing and entertaining.

Composition

The UTCSSA has more than 20,000 members, among whom more than 7,000 are active. There are around 5,000 members who subscribe to the email list of UTCSSA. The number of new members each year exceeds 900 and the number of visitors to UTCSSA’s home page on social networks is growing exponentially.

  • Every year: Write student guide, organize freshman orientation, go to wonderland, enjoy blossoms in High Park, bus tour to Niagara Falls, go skiing, enjoy the maple leaves tour, etc.
  • News about UTCSSA

    UTCSSA assisted the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Toronto to write a practical handbook facing emergencies for Chinese students in Canada. UTCSSA also invites lawyers and campus police to hold a series of safety conference to improve and strengthen students’ safety consciousness.

    China News: In order to carry forward the Chinese traditional culture, UTCSSA actively organized the Spring Festival Gala. During the gala, students showed their talents and creativities. The spring festival gala also demonstrated the theme of harmonious multi-culture. The show had got a lot of social attention and recognition.

    York BBS: “Opportunity and choice” series conference organized by UTCSSA was held at the campus of University of Toronto. UTCSSA invited President Sam Liu, and vice president Fred Li from Jetta real estate, to explain the relationship between opportunities, choices and jobs with their personal experiences. The conference enriched students’ knowledge about how to get a job and strengthened students’ understanding of the career of self-employment. Students had agreed on the positive effectiveness of the speeches. UTCSSA would continue inviting successful entrepreneurs from any industries to share their experience to success.

    Torcn.com: As September approaches, UTCSAA sent student volunteers to help new students solve problems. Also, UTCSSA prepared information booklets for new students to get more familiar with the university environment circumstances. Moreover, UTCSSA held an orientation for new comers to U of T, in which UTCSSA invited professors, teaching assistants to provide suggestions and to share experiences about academic and daily life.
