The Uday Foundation is a non-profit organisation based in New Delhi, India. It was established in the year 2007 by the parents of Arjunuday, who was born with imperforate anus and other congenital disorder. The foundation works for the welfare of children with medical needs, support and dignity to homeless and disaster relief.

Welfare of children with medical needs

The Foundation runs a medical clinic where they treat underprivileged patients free of cost. With the help if its donors, the foundation also provides medical help to critically ill children. They run a unique program, storytelling for the children in hospital, where volunteers can visit hospitals and narrate stories to the sick children. Bollywood Actor Ranbir Kapoor, Senior Journalist Ravish Kumar, HGS Dhaliwal(IPS) are among noted people, who held storytelling session for the kids in hospitals.

Public Interest Litigation against sale of junk food in schools

In the year 2010, the foundation filed Public Interest Litigation in Delhi High Court with prayers to ban junk food and carbonated drinks in the schools, to initiate measures to discourage the availability of fast food, unhygienic food and foods with unhealthy ingredients within 500 yards of the school campus and to further direct Union of India and Government of Delhi to develop a comprehensive school canteen policy, emphasizing healthy nutrition among school going children. Responding to the same, the Delhi High Court directed the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to hold discussions with the experts and frame guidelines to make healthy food available in school canteens across India. An expert group appointed by Delhi High Court suggested restricting the availability and consumption of foods which are high on fat, sugar and salt in schools and in a 50 meter radius around them. Further expert group suggested that availability of wholesome food should be increased in the schools across the country. In March 2015, Delhi High Court accepted the draft guidelines to restrict sale of junk food in and around schools made by expert group committee. Further, Delhi High Court asked the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to create regulations for the implementation of the same within three months of the court's order. The Delhi High Court further directed the Government of Delhi and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to consider and issue direction to implement guidelines to restrict junk food in schools.

Internet de-addiction centre

In the year 2014, the foundation started Delhi's first internet de-addiction centre to provide counselling to children with internet addiction disorder. It indulge children in real-life activities such as interactive education, science-based unique programming and device-free retreats.

Disaster relief

The foundation works for disaster relief and humanitarian aid. With the help of its donors and volunteers, their response efforts are focused on food, shelter, water, sanitation and emergency supplies to the victims. It reached out to far off villages during 2013 Uttarakhand floods with emergency relief. During 2014 Kashmir floods, in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Police and various other organizations, Uday Foundation provided emergency relief material to the flood victims . They also conducted medical camps and built shelters for the victims of Jammu and Kashmir Floods.

Support and dignity to homeless

The foundation supports homeless people with in kind help by providing clothes, blankets, dry ration and dignity kits. They supported victims of 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots in collaboration with NDTV. Every winter, Uday Foundation conducts warm clothes drive to support homeless and people who are forced to live in open in absence of basic facilities.
