History

  • 2001: Tra Vinh University (TVU), formerly known as Tra Vinh Community College, was formed in 2001 under the Vietnam and Canada Community College Project. The project was funded and supported technologies by Canadian International Development Agency, Canada Association of Community Colleges (ACCC), a variety of institutes in Canada such as Saskatchewan Institute of Science and Applied Technology (SIAT), Marine Institute (MI), Québec Institute of Technology of Agriculture (ITA), and Malaspina University and College, and Vietnam Government.
  • 2006: On June 19, Tra Vinh Community College was upgraded the University status and renamed Tra Vinh University, a public university.
  • 2006-2011: Standing Committee of Viet Nam Association of Community Colleges (VACC). President of VACC is Doctor Pham Tiet Khanh, The president of Tra Vinh University, term 1.
  • 2011-2016: The president of TVU - Chairman of VACC, Term2.
  • In more than 10 years, it grew from a local provider of vocational education into a multi-disciplinary, multi-campus educational center that offers a variety of higher education courses ranging from apprenticeships to PhD Programs across the following disciplines: Health Science, Culture Studies, Economics, Social Science, Technology and Engineering, Agriculture and Aquaculture, and Education.

    In Tra Vinh Province

    Tra Vinh University, in Tra Vinh Province adjacent to the East Ocean with over 65 km coastline and with the population of over one million with the Khmer People account for about 30% of the provincial population, has 3 campuses. Campus one where the administration center of the university is located, has a total area of 60 hectares.

    Currently

    Currently, Tra Vinh University has more than 40 operational Units, including 12 Schools of: Agriculture and Aquaculture; Applied Chemistry; Basic Science; Economics and Law; Education; Engineering Technology; Foreign Languages; Health Sciences; Southern Khmer Language, Culture and Art; Office Administration, Vietnamese Studies and Library; and Pre-University.

    Programs

    Tra Vinh University offers three Doctoral programs including Culture Studies (Southern Khmer Culture), Business Administration and Literature Teaching Methodology, and thirteen Master programs (updated in December, 2016) consisting of Culture Studies, Business Administration, Economics - Law, Rural Development, Chemical Technology, Electrical Engineering, Economics Management, Literature Teaching Methodology, English Teaching Methodology, Veterinary, Civil and Procedural Law, Information Technology and Accounting. Tra Vinh University has launched 16 postgraduate programs, 31 Undergraduate programs and 39 Advanced diploma programs with full-time training, associate training, part-time training and distance training. Besides, the university has designed and conducted in-service training programs responding to companies’ and localities’ learning demands.
