Lepore began dancing in the street in 1984 as a way to relieve boredom. After he retired, city leaders asked that he return during the holiday season in 1992 as a means of attracting people to the downtown area of Providence. He agreed to a contract to return as a reserve police officer.

In 2015, Providence officials let him go from his decades-long gig directing holiday traffic, allegedly as a result of organizing an anti-Black Lives Matter protest.

Lepore also does stage performances.[1]
