Tollen

Tollen is a village located 6 km from Churachandpur and 54 kilometres (34 mi) from Imphal, the capital city of Manipur, India.

Description

There are more than 80 households in the village. Agriculture, trade and business are the main occupation of the people. There is a post office branch serving the neighbouring villages of Saikul, Patlen, Joljam, Vajing, Leisang, Teiseng, and Kumbipukhri. The Tollen Govt. JB School and Janglal Memorial English School are 2(two) schools running in the village and is doing a commendable service by giving education to the poor children in the area. The Kuki Christian Church (KCC) and Evangelical Free Church of India (EFCI) draw their members from the village. 'Haosapu' is the title name for the head of the village and he is looked upon with respect. In his day-to-day administration, Haosapu is assisted by village authority members (8 No.),who are elected every two years. Tollen village is surrounded by Monglenphai in the North, Vajing in the South, Tuitha river in the East and Zoljam Village in the west. The village is the abode of different [Kuki] clans like the Khongsais, Vaipheis, Singsons, Hmars, the Kipgens etc.

Geography

The Tuitha river runs through the Saikul valley to merge with the Imphal river. It is an ideal place for the villagers for fishing and swimming. There is a daily market here and people from all walks of life from Kangvai and Churachandpur come to buy their vegetables. The village is a bus stop for travellers and also for other vehicles plying on the Tiddim road.

The village is divided into two blocks by the Imphal Churachandpur highway. The school building and public playground is located here.
