The sites

The school is based on two sites approximately 300 metres apart, linked by a recreation field. In the period before the era of comprehensive education there were two schools here: what is now South Site was Thorpe Grammar School while North Site was Thorpe St Andrew Secondary Modern School. Pupils were selected for each according to their eleven plus exam results.

All pupils have lessons on both sites. The North Site is host to the History, English, Drama, Design and Technology, RE, Sociology, Music and Media departments, as well as the library (or Learning Resource Centre, as it is known). The South Site is where the Science, Mathematics,Modern Foreign Languages, IT, Geography, Economics and Art departments and classes can be found. Various other facilities are shared between the two sites, such as Computer rooms and gyms for Physical Education classes. An astroturf area has been constructed on the school field, allowing students to play football/hockey in all weather conditions. Pitches can be rented out to private groups or teams.

Pupils are based in a house either on the North or South Site. There are three houses on each site, which are all named after constellations: Altair, Mira and Cygnus on North Site; and Vega, Polaris and Sirius on South Site, which are each split up into 9 forms per house.

Sixth form

Sixth Formers have access to a Sixth Form Centre (known by students as 'The Bungalow'). The centre provides an area for students to socialise and areas in which to study. In the school's Learning Resources Centre there is a specific Sixth Form area with computers and study booths, which students can use for silent study.

Results
