Thenthiruperai is a panchayat town in Thoothukudi district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is one of the nine temple shrines that constitutes Nava Tirupathi temples.

Demographics
As of 2001 India census, Thenthiruperai had a population of 5092. Males constitute 47% of the population and females 53%. Thenthiruperai has an average literacy rate of 78%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 82%, and female literacy is 74%. In Thenthiruperai, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Temples
It is famous for the Makara Nedunkuzhai Kannan Temple, is one of the Nava Tirupathi, nine Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in Tiruchendur-Tirunelveli route, Tamil Nadu, India in the banks of Thamiraparani river. All these 9 temples are classified as Nava Tirupathi, the 108 temples of Vishnu revered by the 12 poet saints, or Alwars.
History
The Pandiyan Kingdom was hit by a heavy drought in the twelfth century. The saints and well wishers of the kingdom advised the Pandyan King, Koon Pandiyan to make a settlement of One hundred and eight Vaishnavaite families on the banks of river Thamiraparani. Thus Vaishnavaite families from various villages north and south of the Cauvery river were made to settle here thus forming the core of the village.
