The Who embarked upon a series of live shows in 2004, including the band's first ever performances in Japan and their first in Australia since 1968.

History

The group began the year with three shows at The Forum in London, followed by a performance for the Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall, continuing their tradition of supporting the charity as they had in 2000 and 2002. These were their first appearances in the United Kingdom since the death of John Entwistle. A short trip to the United States in May included a promotional appearance for the CBS television network at Carnegie Hall in New York, where the band played the three theme songs for the CSI Franchise, "Who Are You", "Baba O'Riley", and "Won't Get Fooled Again". Three dates in the United Kingdom followed in June, culminating with the group serving as one of the headlining acts at the Isle of Wight Festival 2004. A series of shows in late July and early August began with the band's first ever performances in Japan and three dates in Australia before they returned to the States for two shows each in Hawaii and California.

Live releases

All 18 of the group's 2004 official concerts were released as The Who Encore Series 2004. Only the band's promotional appearance for CBS at Carnegie Hall in New York was omitted from the series.
