Plot

Set in the Los Angeles of the 1990s, The Little Things follows the journey of a detective duo, Baxter and Deacon, who are assigned to investigate series of killings. Their search brings them to a loner, strange enough to pique their suspicion, who may or may not be the culprit. The more they progress with the case, the murkier things get. The killer is right in front of them, yet, certain things do not add up. In times like these, when it is difficult to know what one should believe, it is the little things that matter.
Review

The Little Things is a film that begins on a promising note, with its introductory scene. The cast adds the right flavour to the film, Malek and Washington are impressive in their respective roles and Leto is intriguing. The direction is unique in terms of the direction it takes. However, the choices of screenplay are what limits the film. It makes the film progress in such a manner that the twists do not feel earned. In fact, it even ends up, to a certain extent, damaging the performance of the cast. Washington comes off as generically brooding, for instance, since we do not know what it is that torments him. Even the interaction between the characters of Malek and Washington do not yield much fruit, except when it comes right to the climax. By then, it is a bit too late. The Little Things is suitable for a one-time watch, if you keep your expectations at medium.
