The British-Swiss Chamber of Commerce (BSCC) was founded in 1920 and is an independent not-for-profit organisation with approximately 750 Members. It promotes business relations between Switzerland, Liechtenstein and the UK. The Chamber provides a network and platform for business people to facilitate dialogue and change.

Contents

The BSCC is composed of Corporate, SME and individual Members representing the majority of business sectors.

Represented by Geographically defined Chapters, the BSCC is active in Basel, Berne, Central Switzerland, Geneva, Liechtenstein, Ticino, UK and Zurich. The BSCC has Special Interest Groups covering Public Affairs and Legal and Tax. These chapters, representatives and groups hold regular events featuring keynote speakers, workshops and study trips.

Organisation

An elected President and a Managing Director head up the organisation. Both the Swiss Ambassador in London and the British Ambassador in Bern are Honorary Presidents. The Council is composed of volunteer representatives from over 35 Member organisations. An Executive Board reviews the executive operations.

At the beginning of September 2010, Alexis P. Lautenberg, took over the Presidency of the BSCC.

Carolyn Helbling joined the BSCC as Managing Director in 2008.

Special Interest Groups

The British-Swiss Chamber of Commerce is represented by Special Interest Groups covering Public Affairs and Legal & Tax interests. These Special Interest Groups offer sector-specific support to Members and a diverse programme of events such as:

  • Presentations featuring major international, UK and Swiss speakers, including senior Government ministers and officials, business leaders, heads of international organisations and diplomats
  • A focussed Committee discussing issues, events and industry topics and how to relate these to the broader Membership which BSCC Members can become part of (by request/invitation)
  • Site visits to key companies, international organisations and parliament with the opportunity to converse with representatives from those companies and organisations.
  • Many of these activities are exclusive to Members. They provide knowledge of the experts and expand members professional contact within the British-Swiss business community.

    COBCOE

    The BSCC is a member of COBCOE, (Council of British Chambers of Commerce in Europe). Founded in 1973, COBCOE is an independent non-profit organisation representing 40 British chambers of commerce in 37 countries across Europe. Acting as an umbrella organisation, they work with their member chambers to advance international trade and business with the United Kingdom.
