The band is said to incorporate elements of melody, chaos, technicality, and groove in their music. They are known for having extremely detailed guitar riffs and technical breakdowns and pleasant sounding bridges that create their distinct brand of metalcore. Since their first EP, the band has heavily incorporated the use of clean vocals which is apparent on nearly every track on Lumière (EP). The Afterimage is said to take influence from bands such as Meshuggah, The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, Dance Gavin Dance, The 1975 and Tesseract.
