Brigadier General Than Htay (Burmese: သန်းဌေး; born 12 November 1954) is a Burmese politician and Minister for Rail Transportation of Burmese, in office from 25 July 2013 to 12 August 2015. Than Htay is chairman of the Union Solidarity and Development Party.

Early life and education
Than Htay was born in Myanaung Township, Ayeyarwady Region. he was received a master’s degree into the Defence Services Academy and earned a bachelor of arts and a master’s degree in defence. Serving in the military until 2010, and peaking as a brigadier general, he received many honours.
Military and governmental career
Than Htay is a retired brigadier general in the Myanmar Army. He previously served as the Minister for Rail Transportation, Minister for Energy and Deputy Minister for Energy.
He joined the Union Solidarity and Development Party at its founding in the lead-up to the Myanmar general election, 2010. He was elected as the Pyithu Hluttaw MP for Ayeyarwady Region Myanaung Township in the Myanmar by-elections, 2012, In November 2015, he ran for reelection but was defeated. Than Htay in August 23 was elected chairman of the Union Solidarity and Development Party, replacing former president Thein Sein. The leadership reshuffle came on the second day of the USDP’s party convention in an effort to rebuild the party following its 2015 election defeat.
