Route description

Loop 274 was constructed in order to relieve traffic at a Union Pacific railway crossing on Business 288 south of Downtown Angleton by building an overpass and a bypass so drivers did not have as many traffic signals through downtown Angleton. This loop was constructed to run parallel to the west of Business 288 for fifteen (15) blocks. Traveling north on Business 288 towards Downtown Angleton, traffic wanting to continue on that route have an exit approaching the overpass, as well as a southbound entrance ramp, otherwise all thru lanes continue onto Loop 274, onto the overpass and continue on Loop 274 until it ties into Business 288 at the Wilkins Street intersection. Traveling south on Business 288 towards Downtown Angleton, all traffic directs onto Loop 274. At the Wilkins Street intersection, traffic wanting to continue onto Business 288 must make a left onto Wilkins Street, then an immediate right to continue south on Business 288. Traffic leaving downtown traveling north on Business 288 have an entrance ramp tying into the end of Loop 274.

History

Spur 274 was used in 1954 for a 0.5-mile (0.80 km) road running from SH 207 to US 70 in Floydada, Floyd County. This designation was removed in the later part of the year. Loop 274 was used in 1958 for a former alignment of US 87 in Plainview, Hale County, connecting to that route at both ends. In 1967, this route became US 87 again. In 1968, Loop 274 was used again in Dallas, running from I-35E to Sylvan Avenue. This road became a part of I-30 in 1972. The current Loop 274 was designated onto its current alignment in 1999.
