Route description

The highway begins in the Nashville area’s northern suburb of Goodlettsville, at a junction with the concurrently running U.S. Route 41 (US 41) and US 31W. From that point to the Gallatin city limit, road bears the name Long Hollow Pike. It traverses an interchange with Interstate 65 (I-65) before entering Sumner County. It bisects SR 258 at Shackle Island. It intersects SR 386. It then intersects SR 109, and then briefly co-joins with SR 25 and US 31E in downtown Gallatin before making another left turn on North Water Street. SR 174 turns to a northerly path to intersect SR 52 before meandering the northeastern part of Sumner County before becoming Kentucky Route 3521 (KY 3521) at the state line.
