Maria has won two doubles titles on the WTA tour, as well as 13 singles and 15 doubles titles on the ITF circuit in her career. On 18 September 2017, she reached her best singles ranking of world number 54. On 6 June 2016, she peaked at world number 54 in the doubles rankings.

Maria, who was born in Bad Saulgau, made 13 appearances for Germany in Fed Cup competition between 2006 and 2011.

On 8 April 2013, she married her coach, the French former tennis player Charles Edouard Maria. Their first child, a daughter named Charlotte, was born on 20 December 2013. After a short break from the WTA Tour, Tatjana Maria returned at the Copa Colsanitas in April 2014.
