Tapestry Opera (formerly Tapestry New Opera Works) is a Canadian opera company, located in Toronto, Ontario in the Distillery Historic District. The company was founded in 1979 by artistic director Wayne Strongman, who was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2009. The resident director is Tom Diamond, a Canadian opera director who also works for the Canadian Opera Company and was a judge/host on the Bravo! Television program Bathroom Divas. In January 2014, Michael Mori was announced as Tapestry's new Artistic Director.

History

Tapestry Opera was founded in 1979 as a madrigal ensemble The Tapestry Singers. In 1986 it renamed Tapestry Music Theatre to reflect changes in the company's direction. The company was re-branded as Tapestry New Opera Works in 1999 to reflect its dedication to the creation of contemporary opera, but now operates as Tapestry Opera.
