Early life

Tanja Savić was born in the village Radinac in the Smederevo municipality of Serbia. She was one of three children—two daughters and a son—born to Staniša Savić and Živana. Her sisters name is Biljana, while her brother is Tomica. In a 2004 interview, she stated that she was of Romani descent; she has since denied this.

At the age of eight years she performed at the "Prvi glas Vojvodine” (English: First Voice of Vojvodina) music festival with the folk song “Ječam žela" and won first place. Although no one in the family was involved in music, they all supported her interest and Tanja began to perform with the band Calypso.
Career

Savić auditioned for the first season of the televised singing contest Zvezde Granda in 2003, ending in third place at the 2004 finale. Despite not winning the grand finale, her public profile was raised sufficiently enough for the Grand Production record label to sign her to a contract. This led to her debut album Tako mlada (2005) that turned into a major success, paving the way for a career that followed. With this album she became one of biggest stars in not only Serbia, but also neighboring Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republic of Macedonia, Bulgaria and surrounding countries.

Her two singles "Suknjica" and "Gde ljubav putuje" were theme songs for films Gucha: Distant Trumpet and Serbian Scars (2008), respectively.
Personal life

Savić began dating Australian businessman Dušan Jovančević in 2009 and the couple soon became engaged. During their engagement, Savić became pregnant in 2010 and left her music career in Serbia behind and relocated to her fiancé's home in Australia to focus on raising their family. Their first child, a son Makim, was born 29 December 2010. They were wed in March 2011 and their second son Đorđe was born 30 June 2012. They officially moved back to Serbia in April 2015.

Savić purchased a home in the Zvezdara neighborhood of Belgrade in 2010. Without her knowledge, her father sold the home in 2013 while she lived in Australia. She has not spoken with her parents and brother since then.
