History

The shrine was established in the reign of Emperor Temmu

This place is special to the kami named Takase-no-kami or Ookuninushi no ookami (大国主神).

Takase was the chief Shinto shrine (ichinomiya) of the old Etchū Province. It serves today as one of the ichinomiya of Toyama Prefecture.

In the system of ranked Shinto shrines, Takase was listed among the third class of nationally significant shrines or Kokuhei Shōsha (国幣小社).
