Super Wings (Korean: 출동! 슈퍼윙스; Chinese: 超级飞侠) is a 2014 animated television series co-produced by FunnyFlux Entertainment in South Korea, Qianqi Animation in China, and Little Airplane Productions in the United States, with the production support from the Educational Broadcasting System and CJ E&M in South Korea, and additional support from KOCCA.

Development

Super Wings was announced in September 2013, and had a licensing market debut at that year's MIPJunior in Cannes, France.

Characters

  • Jett (Korean: 호기; Chinese: 乐迪; voiced by Luca Padovan in English version): The main character. A young red and white male jet. His tasks is to deliver packages to kids around the world.
  • Donnie (Korean: 도니; Chinese: 多多; voiced by Colin Critchley in English version): A young male yellow and blue plane. His specialty is to make or repair various items or projects, using his handy tool kit. However, he's prone to self-inflicted accidents, when he tries to land himself to the ground from the air.
  • Dizzy (Korean: 아리; Chinese: 小爱; voiced by Junah Jang in English version): A young pink and white female helicopter. Her main attribute is to rescue the people in need of her assistance.
  • Jerome (Korean: 재롬; Chinese: 酷飞; voiced by Evan Smolin in English version): A young male blue fighter jet. He believes that some problems Jett faces can be solved with a dance routine, and thinks he can do other Super Wings' missions better than they can do themselves.
  • Paul (Korean: 봉반장; Chinese: 包警长; voiced by Gary Littman in English version): A blue and white police plane. One of his specialties is to guard the World Airport at night. At times, he helps Jett and others by using his traffic control and detective skills in certain situations.
  • Grand Albert (Korean: 다알지 할아버지; Chinese: 胡须爷爷; voiced by Bill Raymond in English version): A old and retired male orange bi-plane with a front propeller. He gives moral advice about some tasks to Jett. Also, he has a trunk full of items collected over time from his young days as an adventurer.
  • Mira (Korean: 미나; Chinese: 小青; voiced by Elana Caceres in English version): A young female green jet plane. She is the only member of the Super Wings team that loves water and can breathe underwater without the use of diving equipment.
  • Bello (Korean: 주주; Chinese: 卡文; voiced by Jason Griffith in English version): A black-and-white striped male safari plane with a propeller. His specialty is to talk with various animals in their language.
  • Jimbo (Korean: 코보; Chinese: 金宝; voiced by J. L. Mount in English version): The main traffic controller and the only human working at the World Airport.
  • Roy (Chinese: 皮皮; voiced by Emma Fusco in English version): A luggage tug. He tries to receive every opportunity in wanting to fly, like the Super Wings. However, he does drop some items on the tarmac because he is mostly in a hurry. He has a twin brother named Ray (voiced by Sofia Fusco in English version).
  • Big Wing (voiced by Conor Hall in English version): A blue and white jumbo passenger plane with a yellow stripe. He is the biggest member of the Super Wings team. Also, he is the only Super Wings member that does not transform into robot mode.
  • Distribution

    For the Mainland China and the rest of Asia, as well as the Middle East, Alpha Animation and Culture holds the distribution rights of the series. For the rest of the world, the series is distributed by CJ E&M.

    Broadcast

    In South Korea, Super Wings was premiered on September 1, 2014 on what is now EBS1, a public service terrestrial television channel operated by Educational Broadcasting System. The initial airings on EBS included a segment which celebrated certain children's birthdays during the closing credits. It was repeated on some of children's interest channels on multichannel platforms in the country since then: Tooniverse, owned by CJ E&M, was one of such channels. Season 2 was premiered on March 1, 2017 on EBS1.

    In China, the series was syndicated, distributed by Alpha to television stations.

    In the United States, Super Wings was premiered on March 14, 2015 on Sprout. In Canada, the series was premiered on Treehouse TV (owned by Corus).

    In the United Kingdom and Ireland, Super Wings is set to premiere on Cartoonito on February 6, 2017. Channel 5's Milkshake! strand will premiere the show.

    Merchandise and other media

    Alpha Animation and Culture in China (whose toy division is also operated under its Auldey brand) holds master toy license worldwide. In the United States and Canada, the toys are sold by Auldey Toys and Imports Dragon, respectively.

    Nelvana (a Corus company) has consumer products rights of Super Wings for the United States, Canada and France.
