Rana was born in Dhaka. In 1971, he participated in the war against Pakistan. At present, he is a Presidium Member of the Jatiya Party.

Acting career

Rana did not originally aspire to become a film actor but was asked to act in the film Ora Egaro Jon (1972). In 1973, he acted in Masud Rana, playing the role of the hero. In 1974, he took the name Sohel Rana for his stage name. Since then he has been known as Sohel Rana in the Dhallywood film industry. He has acted in many successful films.
