SSHL is a non-profit private boarding school managed by Sigtuna Skolstiftelse with Sigtunastiftelsen and the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation as trustees.
History
As early as the 1920s, there were two boarding schools of note in Sigtuna. Sigtunastiftelsens Humanistiska Läroverk, founded by bishop Manfred Björkquist and Sigtunaskolan, founded by theologian Harry Cullberg. They merged in 1980 to form Sigtunaskolan Humanistiska Läroverket, SSHL, and the schools were consolidated at the Sigtunastiftelsens Humanistiska Läroverk 's site on the western side of town.
Education
The school offers the MYP program from grades 7-9. The high school offers both Swedish and English programs. Students of the Swedish program focus either on humanities or science and mathematics. The English-speaking programs includes the IB program International Baccalaureate and the Business and Management Programme (the Swedish ”Ekonomiprogram” taught in English).
Boarding
The school has some 550 to 600 students. Day students make up the majority of the population in middle school, while the reverse is true for grades 10 to 12, the equivalent of high school. Overall, 2/3 of students are boarding students. There are currently three homes for boys and three homes for girls, where students aged 13–19 live.
