History
Prior to founding Signature Creative, John Gheur served as executive creative director at DNA Studios from 1999 - 2004, guiding the studio’s growth from a small boutique agency to one of the top 50 agencies in the world. Earlier, he worked with Paramount Television as director of client services for Air Creative. Gheur recognized the need to harness the growing popularity of developing technologies and social media platforms to traditional advertising and branding campaigns; and he launched Signature Creative in 2004 to create an agency that incubated virtual worlds, augmented reality and mobile applications for clients alongside creative branding, design and new media marketing strategies.
Co-founder Poe was in the forefront of online, interactive communication with fans that preempted modern social networking platforms. Her online power was referred to as “unheard of and pretty phenomenal” by Nikki Sleight, Atlantic Records Senior VP of New Media.
Notable Campaigns
Signature Creative conceived The Sunset Strip Music Festival with the City of West Hollywood in 2007 to brand and drive consumers to venues and hotels. Signature Creative was the agency of record through 2013. Event support included digital, motion, print, and the annually redesigned website from 2007 through 2013. Gheur also designed and built two of the ten-foot, 3-D guitars for Gibson Guitar Town and Jack Daniels that annually line the Sunset Strip for six months before going to a charity auction each year.
Notable client campaigns integrating multiple platforms include Disney’s The Lone Ranger Social Campaign. The digital strategy for The Lone Ranger campaign included Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Instagram, Pinterest and Tumblr, creating substantial activation response on social media platforms. Launched in January 2013, The Lone Ranger Facebook page reached more than 300,000 Likes in two months; and the fan base was close to 530,000 at six months. Popular posts have reached as many as 3.6 million users.
Mobile Innovations
The development of customized apps to drive interest, public commentary and ticket sales in movies began to be seen in 2011, and by 2012, Signature Creative launched a number of apps. Notable is their collaboration with Paramount Pictures for the Star Trek Into Darkness App, which uses contextual awareness (geofencing), image recognition and sound recognition to unlock exclusive content and movie tickets.
Their Ptch app for DreamWorks Animation, which enables creation and sharing of short animated clips of photos, videos, music and comments from social networks, received recognition from PC Magazine, The Guardian, and Forbes Magazine.
In 2013, Signature Creative developed the mobile app for Nerdist and Lucasfilm's Star Wars-related Course of the Force (COTF), an Olympic-style Lightsaber relay run, benefiting the Make-a-Wish Foundation, that starts at Skywalker Ranch near San Francisco and ends in San Diego in time for Comic-Con. As part of the collaboration between Qualcomm Incorporated and Nerdist, the app uses Gimbal Context Awareness SDK and Vuforia Augmented Reality SDK technologies to track the relay’s progress in real time, send special messages, let users know when a celebrity runner is in play, as well as send special offers to fans at select special event locations along the route.
