Sibley East Public Schools is a school district in lower Minnesota serving the communities of Arlington, Gaylord and Green Isle in Sibley County.
The Senior High and one of the elementary Schools are located in Arlington. The Senior High serves students in grades ten through twelve and the Elementary School serves students Kindergarten through sixth grade. The Junior High and our other Elementary School are located in Gaylord. This Elementary school also serves students in grades Kindergarten through sixth grade while the Junior High serves students in grades seven through nine. Also, a public charter school exists in Green Isle serving grades K-8.
The classrooms are networked for computers to the internet as well as having communication capabilities between classrooms and school sites. This allows parents access to their child's academic progress. Every teacher has a classroom telephone so that parents are able to contact them directly.
Class of 2011
Sibley East's 2010 football team went 6-3 overall with a Minnesota River Conference record of 5-2, tying them for runner-up to the conference championship. The Wolverines started out the season on a good note, shutting out Gibbon Fairfax Winthrop (GFW) 21-0. We saw our courageous hero's lose their second game to rival Norwood Young America 35-7. After that the Wolverines beat arch-rival Le Sueur - Henderson 14-13 with a last second interception by Sr. Michael Bullert. They followed up this win with another win against Mayer Lutheran 21-20. Mayer Lutheran lined up for a last second, game winning field goal but were thwarted when Jr. Dalton Webster and Sr. Teddy DuFrane blocked the field goal attempt. Sibley East went out the next week and got another win against Jordan, beating them handily 27-13 with Jordan's two touchdowns coming in garbage time at the end of the game. The Wolverines then played Belle Plain, which came down to the wire but saw the good guys win 27-24. After their four-game winning streak the Wolverines saw their conference championship dreams dashed when they lost to eventual conference champ and runner-up in the state tournament Holy Family by a score of 56-14. The Wolverines managed to bounce back with a win to end their regular season by beating Montgomery - Lonsdale 41-21. Going into the section playoffs the Sibley East school was buzzing. This was the first winning season in over a decade at Sibley East and the community was excited to see the football team doing so well. Despite a 6-2 record overall going into the section playoffs, Sibley East only managed to get the fifth seed, meaning they wouldn't have another home game. To top everything off, the Wolverines first playoff game would be against Norwood Young America yet again. Both teams were confident and ready to go for this rematch of the season, but the weather had other plans. With the temperature hovering right about 32 degrees Fahrenheit and a heavy rain mixed with strong gusts of wind, the game was turned into a miserable muddy battle. For the first three quarters of the game momentum shifted back and forth with no team really pulling ahead. Then, towards the middle of the fourth quarter, Norwood Young America stud running back Taz Sibert took the handoff, broke multiple tackles, and rushed into the endzone, almost getting chased down by 300 lb Sr. lineman Ben Melsha. After that the Wolverines wind seemed to come out of the sail. The Wolverines ended up losing to Norwood 24-12. Many tears were shed when these boys of fall warriors realized that this was it. They would never play another down of football together again. But as they say, time heals all wounds, and soon after every one of the seniors started joking around and enjoying their last year of high school. Sr. McKoy Rodning, Sr. Ben Melsha, Sr. Teddy DuFrane, Jr. Tyler Pasvogel, and Jr. Logan Reid all earned first team all conference honors for the Wolverines that year with Sr. Ali Pedraza and Sr. Lucas Herd both earning honorable mention all conference. Teddy DuFrane also earned Offensive Lineman of the Conference and was voted onto the All-Metro and All-State honorable mention teams. Ben Melsha and Teddy DuFrane also made the KARP/KDUZ All-Area team, and Logan Reid made the New Ulm Journal All-Area team. Head Coach Chuck Hartman was voted as the Minnesota River Conference Coach of the Year.
