Shin-Tōmei was partially opened on April 14, 2012 and it runs from Kanagawa Prefecture to Aichi Prefecture. It is planned to link with the Shizuoka Airport.
It is planned to run through to Isewangan Expressway and the Shinmeishin Expressway. The entire cost for the project from Tokyo to Osaka is 7 trillion yen (around 70 billion dollars), and expected to complete in 2020. It is planned to replace the Tōmei Expressway and Meishin Expressway as the primary roadway linking Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka.
