Scott Frederick Gilbert (born 1949) is an American developmental biologist.

Gilbert is Professor of Biology (emeritus) at Swarthmore College and a Professor at the University of Helsinki. In 1971 he obtained his B.A. in biology from Wesleyan University his PhD from the Johns Hopkins University in 1976.

He is the author of the popular textbook Developmental Biology (1985) (now in its tenth edition, 2013). Scott is notable for his research in the field of ecological evolutionary developmental biology.
