Saketharaman (born on Nov 24, 1982) is a performing musician of Carnatic music in India. He is a disciple of Lalgudi Jayaraman. He is an 'A 'grade All India Radio artist.

Early life

When he was just 6 years old, his parents introduced him to the world of music through his first guru Srirangam Krishnamurthy. To understand rhythm and perform better, he went a step further and learnt the Carnatic Mridangam, a percussion instrument. Apart from his long hours of dedication to musical training, he holds an impressive academic record of All India Rank in his High School.

Education

He pursued his master's degree in Software Engineering and is holding a high position in a multi national investment banking company. He had secured All India First in 12th standard and had the rare privilege of witnessing the Republic Day Parade from the Prime Minister's Box in 2001.

Musical journey

Saketharaman had completed an intensive training programme on "Performing techniques in Carnatic music" conducted by his Guru. He has performed concerts all over the world including Theatre de villa, Paris; London; Germany; Sydney; Melbourne; Brisbane; Auckland; Dubai; Muscat; Bahrain; Singapore; Colombo; several concert tours of United States and Canada including all major cities. He is an 'Á' grade artiste of All India Radio. He bagged the All India First in the competition conducted by All India Radio in the year 2000.

Style

Saketharaman has imbibed the famous Lalgudi Bani rich in Bhavam. His voice that flows in all three sthayis. His Pallavis are outstanding for their rich aesthetic and mathematical permutations and combinations, with scintillating ragamalika swaraprasthara showcasing his scholarship and creativity. His Kalpana Swaras mirror his rhythmic excellence. He engages in a methodical expansion of ragas, clear brigas and rich manodharma. He has composed chittai swaras for quite a number of kritis. His mastery over the swaras is extraordinary and is widely acknowledged. He has composed more than 100 RTP in many ragas and tricky thalas. He has tuned many Meera bhajans, compositions of Shri Sadhasiva Brahmendral and sacred texts of Adhi Shankaracharyar. His style of winding up the concert with a thillana composed by his Guru Lalgudi Jayaraman is well known.

Personal life

Saketharaman's mother, Vijaya Santhanam, is a postgraduate in Chemistry and an ardent follower of Shri Shri Krishna Premi Swamigal. His father, Santhanam, is a Chartered Accountant. His elder sister, Vishaka Hari is a well known Harikatha exponent. His wife, Vidhya, is a doctor. The couple reside in Bangalore and have a daughter and a son
