Rugby union at the 2001 Maccabiah Games was the sixth time that the sport had been featured, and the tenth anniversary of its introduction in 1981.
Amongst the teams competing were Israel, South Africa, Australia, the UK, and the USA. The average age of USA Maccabiah rugby players in this tournament was said to be in the twenties.
