Festivals

Every year there is a Horse Racing Festival at the beach at the end of the summer.

Erosion

In 2008, a 1200 ft sand dune disappeared into the sea. The Rossbeigh Strand Tower, which had been a landmark to Castlemaine Harbour for over 100 years collapsed in February 2011.

In 2013, it was reported in the Irish Independent newspaper that since the 2008 collapse, five million tonnes of sand have been lost.
