Rosi Golan

History

Golan was born in Israel, but made many stops in her travels, including Germany, Paris and finally ending up in Los Angeles at the age of nine. During her travels, she not only managed to hone her infectiously melodic songwriting, but also learned to speak five languages: French, Hungarian, German, Hebrew and English.

Golan began songwriting in Los Angeles after purchasing her first guitar on a whim. Soon after, she bravely began performing open mics at LA staples such as Molly Malones and Genghis Cohen. In 2003, Golan moved to New York to begin recording her first demos, promoting through Myspace as well as many other internet outlets. While never releasing those early songs, she did begin to hone her live performance skills by performing at open mics, cafes and small venues across New York City. She also began collaborating with other songwriters during this time. One of those early collaborations was with UK songwriter Jamie Hartman (Ben’s Brother). Their song “Let Me Out” was first released in the UK (EMI) and was Rosi’s first single. It was nominated for the prestigious Ivor Novello award for Best Song. In 2006 Rosi became the winner of the first ASCAP Robert Allen Award for songwriting excellence, she was recognized at the annual ASCAP awards show at Lincoln Center.

In 2007, while Rosi was continuing to collaborate and write the songs that would eventually become her debut LP, she landed the coveted worldwide theme for Pantene with her song "Shine". The song replaced the long-running previous theme "Feel The Rain" by Natasha Bedingfield.

On November 18, 2008, Golan released her debut LP, "The Drifter & the Gypsy". The Marshall Altman-produced LP was independently released on Rosi's own label, Gypsy Betch. Before long it was racking up the song placements with feature films "Dear John", TV shows such as "One Tree Hill", "Vampire Diaries", "Private Practice", "Brothers and Sisters" and ads such as Chicco Clothing, airing commercials with her song "C'est L'amour" in over 15 European countries.

In 2009, Golan began a lengthy stretch of touring that would stretch into 2010, that included headline dates as well as supporting such artists as William Fitzsimmons (who was featured on her song "Hazy"), Greg Laswell, Ari Hest and Jay Nash. She also did a US tour entirely of House Concerts.

In 2010, Golan penned "Bee" which went on to become top 3 in the German Charts, premiered by Jennifer Braun and the later winner Lena Meyer-Landrut. The song would be released on Meyer-Landrut's debut LP "My Cassette Player" (Universal Germany) debuting #1 and certified double platinum. The song itself was released as a single in Germany, peaking at #3. On February 8, 2011 Lena would release her 2nd LP "Good News" which also contained a Golan co-write "I Like You". The album would again debut at #1 on the German charts and certified platinum. On October 12, 2013 Lena released her 3rd LP "Stardust". Again, Golan co-wrote the single and title track which peaked at #2 on the German singles chart, and the song "Moonlight" and both song and LP were certified Gold.

On breaks from touring, Rosi traveled to her favorite writing destinations to collaborate on songs that would soon become her follow-up LP. Those frequent destinations included Los Angeles, Nashville and London. On September 27, 2011 Rosi Golan released her 2nd LP "Lead Balloon", again on her own label Gypsy Betch. The album was a slight departure from the somewhat softer nature of her debut record, "The Drifter & the Gypsy". Enlisting veteran producer Tony Berg as well as collaborators Iain Archer, Johnny McDaid, Natalie Hemby and Boots Ottestad to name a few, the album moves fluidly between genres, containing songs steeped in Americana, clever pop currents running throughout and thoughtful folk. The album also features Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody on "Everything Is Brilliant" and guitarist David Rawlings on "Flicker". Once again, Golan was embraced by the film/TV community having songs featured on "Vampire Diaries", "One Tree Hill" and "Drop Dead Diva" as well as feature film "Tiger Eyes". And once again, Rosi toured the US as well as Europe as a headline and supported artists such as Joshua Radin and Wakey!Wakey!.

“Can't Go Back" from Golan's "Lead Balloon" LP was later recorded by platinum selling country band Little Big Town for their 5th studio LP "Tornado". The LP was released September 11, 2012 and has been certified platinum. Rosi Golan's video for her version of the song is currently being featured on CMT.com and CMTEdge.com

On October 15, 2013 Rosi Golan released her Fortuna EP (Gypsy Betch). The Ian Fitchuk-produced EP was made entirely in Nashville over a 2-week period in the summer of 2013. Fortuna debuted at #8 on iTunes singer-songwriter chart. The artwork is an original piece by Austrian artist Christian Schloe made specifically for this release. The piece is titled "Fortune Favors the Brave" which was taken from a lyric off of the song "Give Up The Ghost".
