It is affiliated with Uttarakhand Technical University, Dehradun. Roorkee Institute of Technology was established under the tutelage of Himalayan Charitable Trust (HCT) in the year 2005. Located at short distance from NH-58 (National Highway, Roorkee, Dehradun) RIT’s campus is spread over an impressive 20 acres.

Academics
RIT Roorkee offers academic programmes in Engineering, Technology and Management. It runs seven undergraduate (UG), three M.Tech., two postgraduate programmes.The institute admits students to B.Tech courses through the AIEEE Entrance Examination conducted at centers all over India by CBSE. RIT Roorkee Admission to PG programmes in engineering is on the basis of GATE score and/or a written test and interview. Along with the engineering courses, the institute offers a two-year residential MBA program for which the admissions, will be done on the basis of Common Admission Test, The institute also offers an interdisciplinary program in computer applications leading to a degree in Master of computer applications (MCA). The MCA program is a three-year course.

Library
RIT has a well stocked modern library .The library is kept open for 12 hours on working days to inculcate the habit of reading and acquiring knowledge .The 24×7 wi-fi enabled library, is the knowledge hub of all academic activities. It has a remarkable contribution in making the institute a premiere education centre.Library on a regular basis is upgraded with the latest journals and books in related fields of engineering, Technology & Management.
Student housing (Hostels)
Most students live in the hostels, where extracurricular activities complement the academic routine. The campus has 2 hostels, one of which is occupied by girls. Hostels may accommodate undergraduate and graduate students. Each hostel has a mess. prawal raj tiwari
Student activities
Students conduct Technical and cultural fest every year. Anugoonj(Cultural festival) is cultural festival. Besides these activities there is a student group on the campus name "Phoenix" it is a local student body which looks towards organizing extra curricular activities on the campus. Phoenix consists of several sub-committees such as cultural, technical, linguistic committees. Phoenix was founded in year 2010.
Alumni Association
The RIT Roorkee Alumni Association was established and registered in 2009 as a society under the Society Registration Act. The association encourages the alumni to take interest in the activities of the alma mater and promotes relations between alumni.Every year Alumni association hosts Award ceremony where Distinguished Alumni are awarded who have made immense contributions in the fields of Academic/Research, Social Sciences, Engineering & Public Administration, Corporate development/Entrepreneurship and Service to the Society. The alumni visit the institute to interact with the students and staff and share their suggestions.
