Richard MacPhail

Richard Paul Macphail (Born 17 September 1950, Bedford, Bedfordshire) is a former musician and business owner best known for being involved in the early tours of rock band Genesis. He was also the vocalist for Anon (often mistakenly referred to as The Anon), one of the two bands that merged to form Genesis in 1967. Following the break-up of Anon, Macphail joined The Austin Hippy Blues, which also featured Harry Williamson, who later wrote and performed music with Macphail's old bandmate and Genesis guitarist Anthony Phillips. Once this band had dissolved, Macphail's next musical venture was acting as tour manager for Genesis from 1969 until 1973 (he was named as 'sound friend' on Foxtrot (1972), and had the Genesis Live album dedicated to him.

He worked with Genesis again for their first post-Peter Gabriel tour in 1976, and with Peter Gabriel as tour manager in 1977 and 1978. Macphail ended his musical career with a band called MC2 in 1979, which featured him as lead vocalist. In 2016 Macphail enjoyed a short spell as DJ on London's Meridian Radio, and followed this up with his own online radio station Radio Rich Pickings.

Outside of music, Macphail has worked with environmental and ecological organizations, including Gentle Ghost. Now semi-retired, he successfully ran his own energy advice company from the beginning of the 1980s. Macphail still makes the occasional appearance at Genesis conventions and the like.
