History

Rhondda Urban District Council took over the lines of the Pontypridd and Rhondda Valley Tramways within its area, and undertook a programme of modernisation and electrification. The Rhondda Tramways Company was a subsidiary of the National Electric Construction Company, and the first electric tramway services started on 11 July 1908.

From July 1919 until December 1927 there was through running onto the neighbouring system of the Pontypridd Urban District Council Tramways.

Closure

Services ceased on 1 February 1934 and in June the company changed its name to Rhondda Transport Company.
