Rengasamudram is a village near Bhramadesom in Ambasamudram taluka in Tirunelveli district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. The population was 2,297 at the 2001 Indian census.

Village area

Rengasamudram is composed mostly of agriculturists toiling in the fields to feed the urban populations. Women that want alternate employment opportunities roll beedies for a living. There is a centuries-old Balaji temple, where from September 15 to October 15 Garuda Seva is offered to the deity every Saturday. On the opposite shore of the river lies the Tiruppudamarudur temple of the leaning Siva Linga. Tamrabarani river is a perennial source of water. Nearby is the Papanasam river and a temple with the Agastyar water falls. An hour from the village the Manimuthar falls can be found. The tower of the eighteenth-century temple of Shri Venkatachalapathy overlooks the village agraharam (street). This street was widened by the local elected member recently. The Ghatana River (Karunai Aaru) flows south of this village and this river joins Tamraparani river near Tiruppudai Maruthoor village. Gayatri Maha Yajnas were conducted at this village by his Holiness Satchinanda Saraswathi of Amruta Ashram during the late 1950´s drawing clowds from the Tamil Nadu. Kalakad tiger sanctuary is also nearby. The village has one more river called Ghadana and Sri Vinayagar temple and Sri Dharmasastha temple are at the banks of this river.The grama Devathai is Sri Alankari amman .The Amruta Ashram has been handed over to Sri Sringeri Mutt during Sri Sri Sri Bharathi Theertha Mahaswamigal's Vijaya Yathra. At Vazhudur, a nearby village, there is a Shiva temple called Sri Azhagiya nayagi Sameda Agneeswarar Swamy. This temple is near the Sri Alankari Amman temple.

Transport

Public transport buses passing give the villagers connectivity to the taluka center in Ambasamudram. The local administration caters a population of around 2,000 persons. There is a route no. 2A Shuttling from Manimuthar to Mukkudal at 5.30a.m 6.20a.m 8.30 a.m 11.15 a.m 1.30 p.m 6.15 p.m 8.30 p.m in both directions.

Education

A local citizens committee funded school Amrita Vidyapeeth where classes up to eighth standard of the State Board are given. To complete studies up to 10th standard the students must travel to Ambasamudram daily. This is a major deterrent especially to girl students.
