Rene Brown recorded her very first song while being deployed in Afghanistan. At the time, her stage name was "Halfbreed", a name she had been called growing up. When Rene came home from her 15 month deployment, she decided to put more of her focus into music. She recorded “Cruel Intentions”, and “Down in Mississippi” and put them on her Myspace music page and got a lot of positive feedback. Rene was stationed at Fort Bragg and performed her first shows at local spots in the Fayetteville, North Carolina. In 2011, Rene attended the Los Angeles Recording School engineering program. She utilized SoundCloud, putting up one song at a time, which she tracked and mixed herself. She decided to switch her stage name to her birth name "Rene Brown". In December 2013, Rene's song "Bliss" was randomly tweeted out by the CEO of Top Dawg Entertainment, which began the start of her involvement with TDE.
