Ray Rothrock (born 1954) is a venture capitalist located in Silicon Valley and former partner at Venrock. He has invested primarily in the industries of infosecurity and energy. Rothrock is currently the CEO of RedSeal Inc. and serves on the board of directors of several other companies.

Rothrock earned his B.S. in Nuclear Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1977, an S.M. in Nuclear Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1978, and an MBA with Distinction from Harvard Business School in 1988.

Career

Rothrock joined Venrock in 1988 and has served on the boards of numerous companies since then. These include Check Point, Imperva, UTIMCO, CTERA Networks, Shape Security, PGP, DoubleClick, Appthority and RedSeal. He retired from Venrock in 2013.

In the 2011-2012 term he was an Executive in Residence at Middlebury College, served as the chair of the National Venture Capital Association for the 2012-2013 term, the following year, he was an entrepreneur in residence at Harvard Business School. Rothrock is also a member of the MIT Board of Trustees (i.e. The MIT Corporation).

In 2014, it was announced that Rothrock, who had been the chairman of the board of directors since the company was founded in 2004, had been appointed as the new CEO of RedSeal.

In addition to his work in technology and business, Rothrock is also trustee of TheatreWorks (Silicon Valley), a local theatre company.

Awards and Distinctions

In 2012 and 2013 he was listed as #49 and #63 respectively on the Forbes Midas List.

Rothrock was listed among MIT's distinguished Nuclear Engineering alumni in 2013, Tau Beta Pi's distinguished alumni in 2015 and Texas A&M's distinguished alumni for 2016.
