Ran Poliakine (Hebrew: רן פוליאקין) is an Israeli businessman, the founder of Powermat Technologies. Poliakine is a serial entrepreneur, inventor and industrial designer.

Early life and education

Poliakine was born in 1967 and grew up in Jerusalem, Israel. He is the second born of four children. He attended Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design and pursued industrial design studies. Poliakine lives in Israel with his wife and five children. He is the son of Miron Poliakine, an architect born in Egypt and Nira Poliakine, a psychologist born in Israel.

Poliakine has founded several companies.

Powermat

In 2007, Poliakine founded Powermat Technologies, a company that utilized inductive charging technology to develop wireless power solutions. In 2011, General Motors announced that the 2013 Chevrolet Volt would incorporate the Powermat technology. In March 2012, Powermat teamed with Procter & Gamble to form the Power Matters Alliance. Duracell, General Motors, Starbucks, Flextronics, and AT&T all adopted the Powermat technology.

Wellsense

In 2009, Poliakine formed Wellsense. Wellsense developed the world’s first bedsore monitoring system. He met with Amir Ben-Shalom and developed a real-time bedside pressure sensing mat and technology, the Monitor Alert Protect (MAP) system. The MAP system continuously monitors a patient to display potential development of high-pressure points that lead to bedsores and pressure ulcers. Wellsense MAP system and technology is utilized in major hospitals throughout the world and in the United States including the Cleveland Clinic, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston Methodist Hospital and Kentucky’s Jewish Hospital.

Years of Water

In 2012, Poliakine teamed with Moshe Moalem to establish Years of Water Ltd. A primary goal of Years of Water was to produce an affordable and portable home water treatment system. The company developed The Water Elephant, a small, portable, cost effective water treatment solution that utilizes an ultraviolet lamp to effectively destroy bacteria, viruses, and protozoa. Poliakine and Years of Water have deployed The Water Elephant to Ecuador, Nigeria, and South Africa.

QinFlow

In 2012, Poliakine established QinFlow Ltd. QinFlow produces The Warrior, a portable blood and IV fluid warming device that can be utilized in emergency situations. QinFlow is a portmanteau of Quality in Flow. In 2016, Qinflow was represented at MEDICA. MEDICA is a trade show event that is held in Düsseldorf, Germany. In 2016, the event was held from 14–17 November 2016.

CardioLogic Innovations

In 2012, Poliakine started CardioLogic Innovations Ltd. to develop a solution for acute heart failure with the introduction of a pulmonary congestion monitor system. The company secured several patents that utilized technology for patient monitoring, a system for electrical thoracic scans, and a method of measuring bioimpedance.

Planet of the Apps

In 2013, Poliakine started Planet of the Apps, Ltd. with the goal of developing online games and apps for the mobile and smartphone environments. The company founders were Ben Engel-Kacen and Yair Horowitz. The development model for the company is to perform all aspects of game production in-house, from the original ideas to product release. The team at Planet of the Apps also handle marketing, analytics and cross-promotion. The company originally utilized the Cocos2d game engine, but has since moved game development to the Unity game engine. This allowed Planet of the Apps to publish across platforms with less effort. Games and apps are available on iTunes and Google Play.

Clkim

In 2014, Clkim was established in Neve Ilan, Israel as a URL and link management platform, with an emphasis to provide an alternative to offerings by companies like TinyURL and Bitly. Clkim was founded by Yoav Shalev. Shalev is the CEO and the developer of the application that is utilized by brand managers, affiliates and social media marketers. In 2016, Poliakine invested $1 million in Clkim. He is the chairman for the company’s board of directors.

Illumigyn

In 2014, under the direction of Poliakine, Illumigyn, Ltd. was established, headed by Ariel Katz, CEO and Lior Greenstein, CTO. Illumigyn offers the Gynescope, an advanced colposcope with a camera system to be utilized by gynecologists and OB/GYNs to permit early detection of cervical precancerous conditions. The company developed the system with the goal of reducing deaths from cervical cancer and other diseases. Dr. Risa Kagan is a member of the company’s scientific advisory committee. Kagan is an obstetrician/gynecologist at the University of California, San Francisco, and the Sutter East Bay Medical Foundation in Berkeley. In 2015, at the 63rd annual meeting of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) in San Francisco, Illumigyn introduced a new device that promised to increase the speed and accuracy of cervical examinations and diagnosis. Poliakine secured 3 patents for the device.

The trademark application for Illumigyn describes the device:

“An integrated medical device system for imaging, diagnosing and treating abnormal cells, comprised of a speculum and high resolution medical imaging apparatus and processors and also including illumination apparatus and working space for tools in the nature of medical trays for holding instruments, medical supplies and tissue samples during interventional procedures, for use in a clinical setting.”

Tap Systems

In 2015, Tap Systems, Inc. was started by Poliakine. The company developed a single hand Bluetooth wearable keyboard, the Tap Strap. By tapping your fingers on any surface, your finger strokes are converted into keystrokes on a virtual keyboard. The system translates a combination of 31 different finger tap combinations into the letters of the alphabet and numbers. The Tap Strap utilizes Bluetooth technology to transmit your finger taps to a mobile device, smart phone or tablet. The device could eliminate the need for a keyboard or keypad to text, tweet, or type.
