She was appointed to the Colorado Senate on December 10, 2013 and served until January 15, 2015, having lost the 2014 general election to Laura J. Woods. She then defeated Woods in the 2016 general election and was sworn into the senate again in January, 2017. Previously, Zenzinger served on the city council of Arvada, Colorado.
