As per the 2001 census, Poovathur West had a total population of 2086, with 987 males and 1099 females. The sex ratio was 1113. The literacy rate was 75.89. since from beginning school has achieved 100% result in state board examination and produced excellent students in 2016 and school first keezhanatham arunkumar s/o c.ganesan was scord 457 marks in tamil medium and the school is so popular by Head Master Mr.GUNASEKARAN and assist HM chellamani within the surrounding 12 villages.
